“It’s the road I chose” – Zack Henry reflects on journey from University of Bath Rugby Club to Premiership giants Leicester Tigers via France

Alumni Zack Henry has been reflecting on his journey from playing for the University of Bath Rugby Club to joining Leicester Tigers in the Premiership via four years in France.

In his first interview since officially joining Tigers at the start of the month, Henry – who graduated in Sport & Exercise Science in 2016 – reveals how he is settling in following his return from successful spells with Rouen Normandy Rugby and USON Nevers.

“People think it’s a bit of a bizarre story but it’s the road I chose,” he said. “When I finished uni I had a few Championship offers but nothing that really grabbed me. Then Richard Hill, who was friends with my coach [Aaron James] at the University of Bath, said he had an opportunity out in France. I thought I’d go there for a season but I ended up being there for four years, it was honestly the best experience I could have hoped for.”

Henry officially began his Leicester Tigers career on July 1, the same day as fellow University of Bath alumni Steve Borthwick joined the Premiership club as Head Coach.

“Steve is massively respected in the industry and his level of success speaks for itself but he is also such a genuine bloke, really nice guy and obviously a brilliant coach,” said Henry. “The conversations we’ve had have been really progressive and positive. Having someone like him around is very motivating.”
