Seventeen University of Bath students and graduates in action as Bath Rugby United and England U20 Men face off at The Rec

University of Bath students and graduates impressed for both teams as Bath Rugby United recorded a 50-28 victory over England U20s on a highly-entertaining evening at The Rec.

International Development with Economics student Jasper Spandler scored four tries in the first half for Bath, while Santander Sporting Scholar Ethan Staddon – who studies Natural Sciences – also touched down as the hosts led 31-7 at the break.

England cut the gap just after the restart through Sport Management & Coaching student Kepu Tuipulotu, one of four Bath students in the England match-day squad along with Billy Sela (Sports Performance), Charlie Griffin (Economics with Politics) and Hudson Powell Sporting Scholar Aiden Ainsworth-Cave (International Development with Economics).

A penalty try reduced the lead further but Wales U20 international Jack Woods (Sport Management and Coaching) touched down for Bath who went on to seal victory when Sports Performance student Henry Barlett, appearing as a guest player, scored the home side’s eighth try of the evening.

All of the students and graduates who featured on Friday – 17 of them in total – have represented the University in BUCS Super Rugby. The men’s 1st XV are back in action on Wednesday 22nd January when they welcome Cardiff Met to the Team Bath Sports Training Village (6.30pm kick-off, free to watch).
