Student Arthur Cordwell becomes latest University of Bath BUCS Super Rugby player to make step up to Premiership Rugby

Arthur Cordwell became the latest University of Bath student to make his Premiership Rugby debut when he came on for Bath Rugby in Saturday’s 38-19 victory at Newcastle Falcons.

The talented prop, who studies Physics, replaced Juan Schoeman in the 72nd minute of a match that featured two tries for University of Bath graduate Tom Dunn. Natural Sciences student Ethan Staddon also came on for Bath in the second half, while Sports Performance graduate Miles Reid was in the starting XV.

Cordwell, who was a regular for Team Bath men’s 1st XV during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 BUCS Super Rugby seasons, joins a host of University students or graduates who have made their first appearances in the domestic top-flight during the past 12 months.

Santander Scholar Staddon became Bath’s youngest-ever Premiership Rugby debutant when he made his bow in December, while International Development with Economics student Orlando Bailey – who is supported by a Matrix Scholarship – made his senior debut for the Blue, Black & White in September.

Trendell Sporting Scholar Beck Cutting – a Sports Management & Coaching student at the University – has regularly featured for Worcester Warriors since making his top-flight debut in August and Sports Performance student Jack Kenningham made his Premiership bow for Harlequins earlier this month.

Prop Kieran Verden made his Premiership debut for Bath in September, while Sport & Exercise Science graduate Zack Henry has made 18 appearances for Leicester Tigers since joining them from French club USO Nevers last summer.

Sports Performance graduate Will Flinn enjoyed a run-out for Gloucester Rugby in the Premiership during a loan spell from Hartpury and Economics student Gwilym Bradley, a Wales U20 international, made his Cardiff Blues debut in the Guinness PRO14 league.
