Former Team Bath captain Tom Doughty makes Bath Rugby Premiership debut as Will Butt equals try-scoring record for Coventry

Former Team Bath captain Tom Doughty became the latest player to progress from BUCS Super Rugby to Premiership Rugby when he came on for Bath Rugby during Friday’s match against Sale Sharks.

The hooker, who played in the first three BUCS Super Rugby seasons and was the competition’s leading scorer thanks to his threat at set-pieces, came off the bench at The Rec in the 34th minute to replace the injured Jacques du Toit.

Sale scored a late try to snatch a 24-20 victory but Doughty impressed on his Premiership debut, particularly with his lineout accuracy.

The Sports Performance alumni is the 11th University of Bath student or graduate to make their top-flight debut during the past 12 months.

There are a host of former Team Bath BUCS Super Rugby players competing in the Greene King IPA Championship too, including centre Will Butt – on loan from Bath Rugby – who equalled Coventry Rugby’s try-scoring record for a game with four touchdowns in Saturday’s 34-10 victory over Jersey Reds.
