First win on the road gives Team Bath a timely boost ahead of four successive home games in BUCS Super Rugby

Team Bath men’s 1st XV gave themselves the perfect springboard into a run of four successive BUCS Super Rugby home games as they recorded an impressive 38-21 victory in wet and windy conditions at Cardiff University on Wednesday.

It was a first win on the road this season for the Blue & Gold – sponsored by Fulkers Bailey Russell – and completed a league double over Cardiff, following on from last month’s big win at The Rec in the Anniversary Game.

Team Bath co-captain Ed Rimmer said: “It was really good for us to get that win under our belts and it gives us a bit of momentum going into our four back-to-back home matches.

“The weather was awful but our forwards were so good in the conditions. They managed to get on top and gave us the platform to win the game.

“The results in the first few weeks of the season were not what we wanted but we are now building towards Christmas and hopefully we can have a good run in front of our home fans.”

As in the Anniversary Game, Team Bath fell behind to a converted try in the opening minutes but responded with two of their own to lead 14-7 midway through the first half.

Cardiff were able to draw level but Team Bath’s forwards were now getting the upper hand and a barrage of pick and goes eventually breached the home line. That was followed moments later by a lineout drive and both tries were successfully converted to put the visitors 28-14 up at the interval.

There was one converted try apiece during the second half, with Team Bath again using their dominant scrum to good effect as they wrapped up a bonus-point victory.

Team Bath, who are also supported by Rengen Developments, face more opposition from the Welsh capital on Wednesday, November 20 as Cardiff Met visit the University of Bath.

It is the first BUCS Super Rugby game of the season at the Sports Training Village and kick-off on the athletics infield is 6.30pm – admission is free!
