From BUCS Super Rugby to Premiership final – Bath student Jack Kenningham all set to cap breakthrough season with Harlequins

University of Bath student Jack Kenningham will be looking to cap a breakthrough season by lifting the Gallagher Premiership Rugby trophy with Harlequins this weekend.

Kenningham, who is graduating in Sports Performance this summer, made his top-flight debut for Quins in February and has gone on to become a regular starter in the back-row with some powerful performances in the club’s famous number 7 shirt.

He scored tries in the late-season victories over Bath Rugby and Newcastle Falcons before playing 98 minutes of last weekend’s incredible semi-final against Bristol Bears, which saw Quins recover from 28-0 down to win 43-36 after extra-time. They will now face defending champions Exeter Chiefs in the final at Twickenham on Saturday (5.30pm).

Kenningham was a key player for Team Bath men’s 1st XV in BUCS Super Rugby in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, earning an England Students call-up for his performances, and University of Bath Head of Rugby Aaron James has been delighted to see him make his mark on the big domestic stage.

“It’s been a pleasure being a part of Jack’s academic and rugby development,” said James. “He led by his actions on and off field for the University of Bath 1st XV, inspiring others with the work-rate which was so evident in last weekend’s semi-final against Bristol.

“We thank Jack for his valuable input to the club and culture, and wish him all the best for the Premiership Final on Saturday.”
