Student Grace Crompton scores six tries during debut competition to help GB Rugby Sevens win Women’s Fast Four in Vancouver

University of Bath student Grace Crompton made a big impact in her debut tournament with GB Rugby Sevens as she helped them win gold in the HSBC Sevens Women’s Fast Four competition in Vancouver, Canada.

Crompton, who is about to start the second year of a Sport Management & Coaching degree course, joined University of Bath graduate Amy Wilson Hardy on the scoresheet as Great Britain beat the United States 34-12 in the final.

She had started the weekend by scoring twice on her first senior appearance for GB in a 39-0 victory over Mexico, then used her blistering pace to touch down in a 41-12 win in the third round-robin match against the United States.

That earned Crompton, who plays for Bristol Bears in the Allianz Premier 15s, a start in the semi-final against Mexico and she scored twice in the opening seven minutes to set GB on their way to a comprehensive 43-0 victory.

Sport & Exercise Science graduate Chantelle Miell was also part of the victorious GB squad, who now head to Edmonton for another HSBC Sevens Women’s Fast Four competition this weekend (September 25-26).

Meanwhile, University of Bath graduate Jack Kenningham has been named in a 45-man England Rugby squad for a three-day training squad taking place next week in the build-up to the Autumn internationals.

Kenningham, who graduated in Sports Performance this summer and played for the Team Bath men’s 1st XV in BUCS Super Rugby, has enjoyed a meteoric rise over recent months and won the Premiership title with Harlequins in June.

The new BUCS Super Rugby season begins on Wednesday 29th September with Team Bath visiting Leeds Beckett in their opening fixture. Click here to find out more about the rugby programme at the University of Bath.
