University of Bath students Ethan Staddon and Tom Carr-Smith get England Rugby call for Six Nations U20 Summer Series

Sporting scholar Ethan Staddon and fellow University of Bath student Tom Carr-Smith have been named in the England Rugby U20 squad for the Six Nations U20 Summer Series.

They join Bath Rugby club colleagues Sam Harris, Ewan Richards and John Stewart in a 32-man squad heading to Italy for the tournament, which gets under way against South Africa on Friday 24th June (4pm BST).

England will also face France on Wednesday 29th (4pm) and Ireland on Tuesday 5th July (7pm) in the series, which is being played in place of the World Rugby U20 Championship postponed until 2023.

Natural Sciences student Staddon, who is supported by a Santander Scholarship, is looking to earn his first U20 cap having previously represented England at U18 level. He plays in the back row and became Bath Rugby’s youngest-ever Premiership Rugby debutant in December 2020.

Management student Carr-Smith, who made a number of eye-catching appearances at scrum-half for Team Bath in BUCS Super Rugby last season, played for England in both the 2021 and 2022 U20 Six Nations campaigns, helping to complete a Grand Slam in the first season. He is supported by the Team Bath Dual Career programme.
