University of Bath BUCS Super Rugby players in action for both sides as Bath United beat England U20 in entertaining encounter
A host of University of Bath students were in action for both sides when England U20 took on Bath Rugby United in an entertaining match at Shaftesbury Park in Bristol.
Business student Austin Emens, fresh from making his GB Rugby 7s debut, continued an impressive season as he lined-up as a guest for Bath United – and promptly opened the scoring following a slick backs move.
There were further first-half tries from Sports Performance student Louie Hennessey, a Wales U20 international, and former Ivor Powell Sporting Scholar George Worboys, the latter on target with all his conversion attempts as Bath went into the break with a 28-7 lead.
International Development with Economics fresher Ieuan Davies extended their advantage with another converted try but the second half proved more competitive as England – featuring Sports Performance duo Billy Sela and Scott Kirk in the front row – ran in four tries.
The match eventually finished 42-33 to a Bath squad that also included current students Will Jeanes, Tom Cowan, Jasper Spandler, Eddie Erskine, Mackenzie Graham, Jack Bennett, Murdoch Lock, Raff Weston, James Short and Josh Dingley, as well as graduates Arthur Cordwell, Kieran Verden and Josh Bayliss.
All have represented the University of Bath men’s 1st XV in BUCS Super Rugby, with the 2023-24 season resuming on Wednesday 24th January with a home match against Leeds Beckett. Kick-off is 6.30pm at the Team Bath Sports Training Village and admission is free.
