Tyler Offiah treble helps Bath overcome Nottingham resistance and immediately get back to winning ways in BUCS Super Rugby

England U20 winger Tyler Offiah scored a hat-trick of tries as the University of Bath men’s 1st XV overcame tough opposition from Nottingham to make an instant return to winning ways in BUCS Super Rugby.

A week after their epic Anniversary Game clash at The Rec, the Bath Building Society-sponsored squad were back on the 3G pitch at the Team Bath Sports Training Village and got off to a flying start when Offiah went over in the fifth minute for a try converted by Will Roue.

Nottingham quickly responded with an unconverted try but Bath stretched their lead to 14-5 when co-captain Max Pearce touched down and Roue added the extras.

The visitors turned the game on its head with two tries in five minutes, the second converted, to lead 17-14 at the break but Bath made a storming start to the second half as Offiah crossed the line twice in quick succession to complete his hat-trick.

Roue converted the second but Nottingham put the game back in the balance when they grabbed their fourth try of the evening, cutting Bath’s lead to 26-22.

A second Pearce try and a Sam Winters touchdown, both converted by Roue, finally broke Nottingham’s resistance and replacement Alex Ridgway grabbed two converted tries in the last three minutes to seal a 54-22 victory for Bath.

The result means Bath, who are also supported by Rengen, remain second in the BUCS Super Rugby table, one point and one place ahead of old rivals Loughborough who they visit on Wednesday 29th October (7pm).
