Alumnus Freddie Clarke joins University of Bath students Orlando Bailey and Max Ojomoh in England Rugby squad ahead of summer internationals

University of Bath students Orlando Bailey and Max Ojomoh have been named in the England Rugby squad for a three-day training camp ahead of this summer’s tour of Australia.

Sports Performance graduate Freddie Clarke has also received his first senior call-up and is in a 35-strong squad attending this week’s camp, being held in Teddington from Tuesday to Thursday.

All three players will be looking to impress and earn a place in the match-day 23 for England’s game against Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday 19th June, as well as put themselves in contention for July’s Australia tour.

Matrix Sporting Scholar Bailey, who studies International Development with Economics, has been a regular starter at fly-half this season for Bath Rugby, while Business Administration student Ojomoh – supported by the Team Bath Dual Career programme – has shone at centre for the Blue, Black & White.

Clarke, who was supported by a Santander Scholarship and helped GB win the World Universities Championships rugby sevens title during his time at the University of Bath, graduated in 2015 and has played for Gloucester Rugby since 2016.

This season saw him excel in the second row and he was named as Coaches’ Player of the Season after helping the Cherry & Whites finish fifth in the Premiership table.

Both Clarke and Ojomoh have represented the University of Bath in student competition, the former as men’s 1st XV captain and the latter as part of the BUCS Super Rugby squad in 2019-20.

Aaron James, Head of Rugby at the University of Bath, said: “In a tough year results-wise for Bath, Landy and Max have kept their self-drive and professionalism throughout. Hopefully they will get a shot at the selected 23.

“Past captain Freddie Clarke has been on top form for Gloucester and has always had the skills a back would strive for. Dedication gets you a long way and hopefully that will help him into the match-day squad.”
