Team Bath looking for home bounce-back after narrow defeat in BUCS Super Rugby top-of-the-table clash at Loughborough

Team Bath’s unbeaten BUCS Super Rugby run came to a battling end as they went down 20-11 at league leaders Loughborough in Wednesday’s top-of-the-table showdown.

A close-fought first half saw the Bath Building Society-sponsored visitors edge ahead through a 17th-minute penalty but strong defending prevented them adding to the score and Loughborough were able to notch the first try, which was converted, just before half-time.

There was still time for both sides to exchange penalties as Loughborough went into the break with a narrow 10-6 advantage, which they extended via another penalty just after the restart.

That was how the scores remained until five minutes from time when, despite losing a player to a red card just before, Loughborough were able to force another converted try.

The visitors kept fighting to the end and pulled a try back but Loughborough were able to hold on for a win which keeps them level with Exeter at the top of the table. Team Bath remain just five points behind, though, in third place.

The brothers in Blue & Gold will be looking to bounce back immediately when they welcome Nottingham to the Team Bath Sports Training Village on Wednesday 1st March for the penultimate home match of the league season (6.30pm kick-off, free to watch).
