VIDEO: Two late tries from Max Pearce earn Team Bath a share of the spoils from BUCS Super Rugby visit to Durham

Aaron James said his Team Bath squad had mixed emotions after scoring two late tries to salvage a 17-17 draw at Durham and extend their unbeaten BUCS Super Rugby run to five games.

The Bath Building Society-sponsored men’s 1st XV led 7-0 at half-time thanks to a pick-and-go try from flanker George Doel, which was converted by Zach Rodber.

Defending champions Durham drew level with a team try after the break and went over again moments later to turn the game on its head, with the two successful conversions giving them a 14-7 advantage.

They stretched that to 17-7 with a penalty but Team Bath refused to accept defeat and replacement hooker Max Pearce went over twice in the last 10 minutes from lineout drives to level the scores. The conversions were off target, meaning honours were shared.

James, Head of Rugby at the University of Bath, said: “It’s always disappointing not to win but we were obviously pleased to come back like we did and come away with the draw. It keeps our good run of results going and we’re looking forward to visiting Loughborough next week.”

Loughborough returned to the top of the table with a midweek win at Leeds Beckett, putting them two points clear of Exeter and Team Bath with just four games of the regular league season remaining.
